Another coveted prize that is often won by Colorado Springs is the “Fittest City” award, an honor given out annually by Men’s Fitness Magazine.  In the most recent article proclaiming Colorado Springs the Fittest City, the magazine touted the region’s geographic location, nutrition, open space and air quality for being among the best in the nation.

None of these accolades come as a surprise to people who enjoy the benefits of living in Colorado Springs, but like any other area, relocation to Colorado Springs requires a certain amount of planning.  For example, many new residents complain about the altitude and find it difficult to resume their fitness routines when they first get to town.  That’s because at 6,000 feet, the body responds quite differently than it would at a lower elevation.  Shortness of breath can result, leaving people feeling the effects of overexertion just halfway through their workouts.  At 12,000 feet, one only gets 40 percent of the oxygen they would normally get at sea level.
