Homes for Sale in Colorado Springs – Top Neighborhoods for Military Relocation

homes_for_sale_in_colorado_springs_coIf you are moving to Colorado Springs this year, then chances are you are doing so because of a military PCS relocation.  With five active military bases in the area, many of the homes for sale in the ‘Springs are being marketed to military families.  Does this sound like you?  Then take some advice from a military relocation specialist - Plan on looking at the homes for sale that are located in neighborhoods near your Colorado Springs military base.

Fort Carson is by far the most recognized name among Colorado Springs’ military bases, which also include NORAD, the Air Force Academy, Shriever Air Force Base, and Peterson Air Force Base.  Some of the neighborhoods closest to Fort Carson include Fountain Valley, Southeast Colorado Springs, Security, Widefield, Rock Creek and Stratton Meadows, to name a few.

No search of Colorado Springs military homes would be complete without looking at Fountain Valley, which is located immediately to the east of Fort Carson. This area features brand new neighborhoods and well established communities, and the average home for sale is still less than $200,000.

Southeast Colorado Springs is the place to find some of the more affordable 2 and 3 bedroom homes, many of which are priced well below $150,000.   Similar to Fountain, this area features a diversity of mature neighborhoods and new developments.  It was named one of the top 8 most affordable Colorado Springs neighborhoods in 2009.

The neighborhoods of Security and Widefield are just northeast of Fort Carson, and they are technically within the Colorado Springs region but just outside the city limits.  Many of the homes for sale in these neighborhoods were build in the 1950s, and yet there are still new homes being built there today.  Because the home sizes range from 2 to 5 bedrooms, prices can be anywhere from $50,000 for a small bungalow to over $500,000 for a spectacular family home.

Homes for sale in Stratton Meadows, Stratmoor Valley and Stratmoor Hills are mostly 3-4 bedrooms and were built in the 1960s and 70s.  While there are a few streets with newer homes, the majority of these homes are in established neighborhoods.  The location provides easy access to Fort Carson, and is located just north of the base off of Highway 115.  Many of the homes for sale in these neighborhoods are available for less than $150,000.

Rock Creek, Turkey Canon and Broadmoor may be close to Fort Carson in mileage, but many of the homes in these neighborhoods will be far out of reach for military personnel.  However, it is worth taking a look to see if any of the homes for sale here are available at a bargain price.
