When it comes to buying a home in Colorado Springs, most realtors will agree that you should trust your instincts. Even during a recession, buying real estate in a place like Colorado Springs still makes sense. Why? Because the Colorado Springs housing market is rebounding nicely, and the area is considered one of the best places to live in the country.
Even though home prices are still about 7% lower than they were at this time last year, sales continue to grow at a nice clip. And thanks to the frequent relocation of military families into the region’s five major military bases, demand continues to rise.
Good news for Property Values in Colorado Springs
Sellers and realtors were excited about the recent news of an extension to the Federal New Homebuyers Tax Credit. Originally set to expire at the end of November, it is now available through April 2010. For the Colorado Springs housing market, this means demand will continue to rise, which may ultimately increase home prices. Buyers who have good credit scores continue to qualify for great mortgage rates, so expect the inventory of unsold homes to decrease in the coming months.
Thanks to its comparatively healthy economy, Colorado Springs is faring much better during the recession than other areas of the state. This is primarily due to a strong high-tech economy, excellent quality of life and extensive military presence.
Pike’s Peak realtors are also promoting the city’s cultural renaissance, including a $33 million dollar performing arts complex and its new roots and blues festival, Meadowgrass. But one of the best reasons to live here is the easy access to outdoor activities like skiing, fishing, hiking and white-water rafting. Within a ten mile radius there are 260 miles of trails available for multiple sports, which may be why Colorado Springs is also one of America’s “fittest” cities.
Don’t let the recession stop you from buying a home in Colorado Springs. There has never been a better time to move to Colorado’s Front Range.
